Academy Awards Winners are!

By Paul Anthony

Here we are again another award show honestly the biggest one of the season and to say it was a dud would be an understatement. Every year it does seem like that this show does take a hit. They went without a host and jokes went over people’s head and the speeches were predictable and there were enough of weird moments and the crowd was basically falling asleep, well I was but then a surprise performance by Eminem which woke the crowd but if you missed the show here are the winners of this years Academy Awards!

Box Office Rundown 2/10/2020

By Paul Anthony

Welcome back to another week of where we find who made it to the number 1 spot and who came up short. This week we saw the release of Birds of Prey which as predicted debuted at number 1. However the problem is the numbers were underwhelming with barely making it to 34 million but with international numbers which saves a lot of movies to worldwide gross came to around 81 million dollars. Another winner in my eyes has been Knives Out this movie last week was out of the top ten only to be back in the top 10 and been in the top ten for most of it’s box office run which started at the end of November. We can’t have winners without Losers though only one of these two films are actually an loser both Gretel and Hansel and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker fell three spots though both remain in the top ten. This week will no doubt shake things up a bit because we have three new movies joining the box office with one being a big name. We have Sonic the Hedgehog which is predicted to be number and then you have Fantasy Island and The Photograph. 2020 hasn’t been all that kind to horror films so it will be interesting to see how well Fantasy Island will actually do.

  1. Birds of Prey, 33.250 million
  2.  Bad Boys For Life, 12.005 million
  3. 1917, 9 million
  4. Dolittle, 6.660 million
  5. Jumanji: The Next Level, 5.553 million
  6. The Gentlemen, 4.180 million
  7.  Gretel and Hansel, 3.510 million
  8.  Knives Out, 2.350 million
  9.  Little Women, 2.325 million
  10.  Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, 2.226 million

Predictions

  1. Sonic
  2. Birds of Prey
  3. Bad Boys for Life
  4. Fantasy Island
  5. The Photograph
  6. 1917
  7. Jumanji: The Next Level
  8. The Gentlemen
  9. DoLittle
  10. Knives Out

Box Office Rundown 2/3/2020

Well, to say last weekend was a slow weekend would be an understatement. Here we have another weekend of movies where the new films just underperformed and couldn’t make it into the top 3. bad Boys once again came in at number 1 which wasn’t a shocker. The war movie 1917 keeps on hanging in there with coming in second place. Now here is the film that keeps remaining in the top 5 but yet is a flop and that film is Dolittle which has managed to get 126 million worldwide. The losers of the weekend is The Turning, which fell two spots, then you have Gretel and Hansel which came in at number 4. Then there is the true loser which is the film The Rhythm Section which debuted at number 10 wow. Cats even did better than that but let’s look at the rest of the top ten!

Box office Rundown 1/27/2020

By Paul Anthony

Welcome to another week of seeing where the box office went this week. Now we know Bad Boys For Life would take number 1 at the box office in it’s second week without a problem. If you predicted that then you would be right. Now last week I predicted Dolittle to start to fall after it’s debut at number 3 well the good news that id didn’t job in position because in it’s second week it came in as number 3 just 3 million behind the war movie 1917. This past week we had two new movies that jumped in the race and the one was called The Gentlemen which I figured to come in at number 2 turns out it couldn’t beat Dolittle and came in at number 4. Another opening film The Turning came in at number 6. I had it coming in at number 3. Now we do have two new films coming into play this week as  and those films are Gretel and Hansel and The Rhythm Section. With A week box office week I predict a few changes but nonetheless I believe bad Boys will take the number 1 spot again but Let’s look at the current top ten and my predictions for the next week!

  8. Little Women, 4.700 million
  9. Just Mercy, 4.055 million

Box Office Rundown 1/21/20

By Paul Anthony

Welcome to a new week and oh wow what a weekend it was, we had Bad Boys for life and Dolittle going head to head. Many people figured this would be a battle to start the year off both films are big budget films and had star power to go with it but what we ended up getting a no contest. Bad Boys for life took the number 1 spot by a landslide and for Dolittle it failed to come even close to Bad Boys. In fact Dolittle came in third behind the war movie 1917 which took the second spot and Dolittle took the third spot and with a budget of 175 million, this film has become the first big bomb of the year. For the winner this blog I am giving it to Bad Boys because it just crushed anyone and the losers for this week was Dolittle and Under Water. Dolittle because it is becoming a flop and Under water because it fell from 7th to 11th an no longer in the top ten.

1.Bad Boys For Life, 62.150 million

2. 1917, 22 million

3. Dolittle, 21.950 million

4. Jumanji: The Next level, 9.680 million

5. Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, 8.302 million

6. Little Women, 6.350 million

7. Just Mercy, 5.770 million

8. Knives Out, 4.323 million

9. Like a Boss, 4.35 million

10. Frozen 2, 3.918 million.

Now here are the prediction for how next week’s top ten should or could look like.

  5. Just Mercy
  6. Jumanji: The Next Level

Box Office Rundown 1/13/19

By Paul Anthony

Welcome to this week edition and like always we will look at the top ten movies and see how well they did! This past weekend we saw the advantage of having a limited release first then having a wide release. two films in the top 5 had limited releases before going into this week. The number 1 spot goes to the war film 1917 and last week winner Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker fell to number 2. Just Mercy which is a drama that had a limited release came in at number 5 in it’s first weekend as a wide release. the Biggest winner though goes to Just Mercy because it sat at number 29 and jumped up 24 spots to reach the top 5. 1917 was big winner as well because it went from 17th to 1st jumping up 16 spots. We do have a few losers both Spies in Disguise and Frozen 2 fell four spots but still remain in the top ten unlike the Grudge who fell from 5th to 12th. I am also starting a new title and that is the flop of weekend and the first one to be added to this list is Under Water which came in 7th in it’s opening weekend. now Let’s look at our top ten.

  1. 1917, 36.500 million
  2. Star Wars; the Rise of Skywalker, 15.059 million
  3. Jumanji: The next Level, 14 million
  4.  Like A Boss, 10 million
  5.  Just Mercy, 10 million
  6.  Little Women, 7.650 million
  7.  Under Water, 7.003 million
  8.  Frozen 2, 5.761 million
  9.  Knives out, 5.725 million
  10.  Spies in Disguise, 5.108 million

Now we do have two big names entering the run this week and that is the long awaited Bad Boys for Life and the reboot of Dolittle! Now here is what I am predicting!

  1. Bad Boys For Life
  2. Dolittle
  3. 1917
  4. Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker
  5.  Jumanji: The Next Level
  6. Just Mercy
  7.  Little Women
  8.  Frozen 2
  9.  Like a Boss
  10. Under Water

Box Office Rundown 1/6/20

By Paul Anthony

Welcome to the second edition of this blog series in the new year and now that the year has kicked off with basically one new film a horror film and a reboot. I predicted to be the number fourth film of the top ten. Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker once again took the number 1 spot but it is starting to lose steam in fact most of the films of last month are now losing steam and this upcoming week, we have 4 new films aiming to make it in the top ten but will they? I predict all four will but Under Water will barely crack the top ten. This week we don’t really have a winner, which someone who moves up a good amount of spots most of the top ten stayed pretty much intact. We do have some losers but barely, both films dropped two spots and that is Frozen 2 who went from 3 to 5 and Cats who went from 8 to 10. Now Let’s look at the top ten shall we?

  1. Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker, 33.739 million
  2.  Jumanji: The Next Level, 26.500 million
  3. Little Women, 13.575 million
  4.  The Grudge, 11.300 million
  5.  Frozen 2, 11.291 million
  6. Spies in Disguise, 10.081 million
  7.  Knives Out, 9.025 million
  8. Uncut Gems, 7.826 million
  9.  Bombshell, 4.075 million
  10.  Cats, 2.6 million

Here are my predictions!

  1. Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker
  2. Just Mercy
  3.  Like a Boss
  4.  The Grudge
  5. Jumanji: The Next Level
  6.  Frozen 2
  7.  Spies in Disguise
  8.  Under Water
  9. Little Women
  10.  Knives Out

Friday Roundabout 1/3/19

By Paul Anthony

Welcome to the first edition of roundabout in the new year and I hope we all enjoyed the holiday season but now it is time to go back to work and let’s look at some stories through the week. This one had the biggest amount of steam because well it is Disney. January first came around fans noticed that hit films like The Sandlot and Home alone 1 and 2 and few other films were missing now each film has a loyal fan base so the outcry started to happen which Disney put out an statement regarding those movies and said no worries they will return but because a of legacy deal they had to be pulled which makes sense because they were fox movies and whatever contracts that Fox had, Disney has to honor them.

You want to talk about something scary, let’s talk about getting very sick well you are filming a show called Killing Zac Efron because that is exactly what happen to Zac well he was filming his show. Reports started to surface that he was hospitalization when he contacted some illness which is confirm but what he caught we don’t know. Reports do vary but Zac confirm that he is getting better and was home for the holidays recovering. Which is good news to hear. We all love board games, Monopoly has to been the all time favorite and we know there are so many editions that is crazy to keep count but now we can add one more to the ever growing list and that is they are now coming out with a politic edition where you can be a republican or democrat. This should be fun and exactly what we need.

Fox near the end of its time before Disney was killing the X-Men franchise. Dark Phoenix was the worse and it was their second time at the storyline but they released a trailer for a Movie called new Mutants which almost looked like a horror film which looked pretty good however the movie kept getting pushed back and back for reshoots then Disney took over and seemed like all hope was lost until news broke that Disney was going to release the film without reshoots, so we finally get to see this film well at least at the moment this film has some hope.

Okay we all know that Directors film extra scenes and studios also have input on what makes the final cut and sometimes the directors put together a good movie but the studio thinks otherwise which causes scenes to get cut. Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker now join the trend of fans wanting to release the director’s cut which the hashtag JJAbramsCut. Look His scenes will most likely get added to the deleted scene section and we will get to see the film. Disney knows they can make money off of this final film but don’t want to release all their marbles so just give it time people and enjoy what you see now!

Box office Rundown 12/30/19

By Paul Anthony

welcome to the final edition of Box Office rundown for the year of 2019 and we are just days away from kicking off a new year in film but how did this weekend stack up. For Starters, Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker remains in the number 1 spot. Uncut gems got the biggest jump when it got a wide release, it went from 15th to 7th and the biggest loser is Cats which to my shock remains in the top ten but dropped from 4th to 8th, so without wasting time let’s look at our current top ten.

  1. Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, 72 million
  2.  Jumanji: The next level, 35.300 million
  3.  Little Women, 16.525 million
  4.  Frozen 2, 15.500 million
  5.  Spies in Disguise, 13.200 million
  6.  Knives out , 9.725 million
  7.  Uncut Gems, 9.552 million
  8.  Cats, 4.830 million
  9.  Bombshell, 4.7 million
  10.  Richard Jewell, 3.010

Well for the first weekend of the year we only have 1 wide release and that is the Grudge, which should help it make some money but I don’t see it becoming the number 1 film in it’s run. Here are my predictions!

  1. Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker
  2. Jumanji: The Next Level
  3. Frozen 2
  4.  The Grudge
  5. Spies in Disguise
  6. Little Women
  7.  Uncut gems
  8.  Knives Out
  9.  Bombshell
  10.  Richard Jewell

Rise of Skywalker review and more!

By Paul Anthony

Now in this blog I am going to review the number 1 film over the weekend and that is Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, which is now the last film in what is now known as the Skywalker Saga which basically covers three generations of Skywalker. Episode 1-3 covers Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader rise and fall and then you had Luke’s story in episode 4-6 then you had the story of Ben Solo/ Kylo Ren for 7-9 but now it is all over and did it end the way we all wanted to it to? Warning this blog does contain spoilers so if you haven’t seen it yet don’t read on.

If you were thinking that Kylo would be redeemed and end loving Rey and they defeat the evil Emperor once in for all and live happily ever after, well you wouldn’t be completely wrong, your just not right either. Here we have it the final episode in this saga, a lot was riding on this film and did it deliver? First let’s look at the plot, here we have the emperor returning and revealing he created Snoke and led Ben to the dark side just like he did to his grandfather years ago but the emperor has one request he wants Rey dead, who is now the last jedi and Leia is finishing her training. Here we see Kylo searching for Rey and he reveals to her she is the granddaughter of the Emperor, they battle for the last time and Leia reaches out to Kylo using the force at that point he realizes he can be Ben again but Rey impales him. After Rey feels Leia gone she heals Ben and reveals she would have taken Ben’s hand not Kylo. There Ben talks with his father Han and it becomes clear he wants to Ben. Now Rey’s story through this training and learning her family’s history goes into exile which Luke convinces her other wise, she heads off to face her grandfather, which he reveals he wanted her alive not dead but she is good and determines to defeat, Ben comes to help and the final battle begins with the two losing but then the past great jedis gives her the motivation the voices include Anakin Skywalker. There she defeats her grandfather for good but at the cost of her life and there Ben uses the force to heal her and they kiss before he becomes one with the force. Afterwards Rey buries the Skywalker light Sabers on Tatooine where Luke grew up and now she takes the Skywalker name as her own with her very own Light Saber which is yellow.

I do believe this was good way of ending this saga because had Ben lived you knew they would have to go on with this saga, pretty much everything was on par but they really didn’t explain how Emperor survived and stood hidden for nearly 30 plus years which means there was some pretty lazy writing at times. This series kept ignoring the fact that Vader became a force ghost, this film would have been a good time to bring him back instead they just does a voice over, clearly this was a big disappointment to me because he was such an important character, having Rey take the name made sense after all the Skywalkers were the people she truly loved. One last thing I did enjoy was the fact that they were introducing more people that had the force ability like Finn who was a weak force user but continues to get strong. In the end I am giving this a good B or right around 80 percent and like I stated in the podcast I am excited to see what happens next!
