Bad Week for the Employees of Vince!Part 1

By Paul Anthony

When you work for Vince McMahon one thing is certain and that is your job might not be safe even when times are good which we know they aren’t currently but who could have seen this coming! this week we learn that the XFL is done after just five games into their season, this happen because of the virus that is going around. Everyone knew that part was coming because before that every league was shutting down, so it was only natural and legal that they had to shut down but then just short time after they shut down, the league filed for bankruptcy now we know the league is no more. Once again the league is gone for the second time.

The league was actually doing good for a start up league, they had the money to pay everyone a decent wage, sure it wasn’t NFL money but it was still more than most us make in a years time. The league was ran as whole instead of having single team owners and the average attendance was around 10 to 15,000, which once again wasn’t bad and even in two cities, the attendance was even higher. In St Louis they were pushing over 30,000 fans to the point, they were going to open the upper levels of the stadium, which was a smart move and good signed that the league could grow because even Seattle was going to do the same.

The league wasn’t like the NFL or the AAF that was around a year before. They played football but made it safer and added a way to get more points and make the game that much more interesting. For an example in the NFL if a team is down by 9 points and the game was down to the final seconds, you knew the team that was down was pretty much going to lose because the most they could get was 8 points. In the XFL you can tie a 9 point game. I have watched a few of these games and honestly I thought it could stick around and even grow but in the end its Vince’s fault. Rumors are coming out that the league would have been fine if he was fully committed to the product.

Vince is a business man who wants to see the returns to be good soon as they start the company and I am guessing they weren’t growing fast enough, so in the end he pulled the plug and left hundreds out work with a very little warning. It was truly a sad day for the people who loved and love to play football.

Now Just recently I started to read that the NFL could buy the XFL and make it into a minor league system much like what the other leagues have. This wouldn’t be a bad move on the NFL’s part because they will continue their dominance and prove that there can only be one football league in America but in the end it was and always will be poor ownership and we will see how bad Vince again in part 2!

XFL: Review so far!

By Paul Anthony

Sport leagues that we know like NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA. Have been around for a very long time and have earn the right to be at the top and then those leagues have minor leagues to groom their young talent. Let’s look at the NFL with 32 teams and each team has 53 men that makes a total of nearly 1700 players not counting practice squad. Now we know there are clearly more people who want to play pro football when they leave college either through being drafted or graduation. Look at how big the NCAA football system really is. It’s not fair to say those who don’t make it isn’t that good enough to make it, the sad point is there isn’t enough room for everyone to make it. There has only been one other true football league and that is the AFL or Arena Football league. Last year we had the AAF which folded midway through the season and left many players without a job. At This point we knew the XFL would be starting the following year, Which gave everyone hope or at least I thought so. XFL was around once before back in 2001 but folded just after one season. 19 years later they came back but will they last more than one season and will they grow?

I wanted to wait review the season after week 2 because the second week of these new football leagues are very important because now the hype is over, things are settled down and the season is in full swing. There is no doubt AAF folded because it ran out of money and we see the AFL teams fold as well because the league has shrunk but not folded. XFL is different though and that is because they have a little more money to work with and they have been drawing decent crowds which is averaging around 15000 per game and the ratings are around 1 million per game. these numbers sound low but things take time. With more money to spend and not spending like crazy which the average player makes 1000 dollars at the lowest each week and up to 2700 for winners with a salary cap of 4 million for each team it’s something the league can afford and I do hope they give us a second season.

Ratings are important and even at 1 million per average it’s still doing better than some tv shows that networks could use to replace it. Now If the ratings dip below a certain number then it could spell doom for the league. America loves football, we see that football in any market thrives. Just look now Las Vegas has a football team and a hockey team. XFL needs to use a good 5 year plan then see what happens, which I hope they can afford it and maybe even consider playing within the NFL season when people are craving Football more at. At this point XFL is doing good for being a baby league but they will need to grow but for now let’s enjoy more Football!

Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez Review

By Paul Anthony

I always have to praise Netflix’s original series, they do hit the spot with good reviews and I can see why. The documentaries that they do are on the good end of things so with that being said when they released this one because it had to do with football and Aaron that I had take a watch because I remember this situation like it was just yesterday. Here we have a modern day O.J. Simpson case. This however was unheard of because Aaron was very much an active Football player not only that he was a superstar at such an young age and was just rewarded a big contract from the New England Patriots. I have to admit that besides the basics I didn’t know much about this case until now.

Instead of having an 3 or so hour long movie of sorts they basically broke it up into three episodes for which each episode focused on a different aspect of Aaron’s life and case. In the first episode we get the story of his childhood and how he was raised with his family and just being an all around fun kid. Friends and family are interviewed  so we can get an idea of Aaron was before the rise in football. Aaron was described as any other young football star in high school. As we hear the interviews we do see clips of him playing football and hits that he took at very young age. It’s revealed that His father was his backbone to keep him straight forward and pushed him mostly likely beyond his limits to be a football star.

In the second episode it talks about Aaron going to The University of Florida to play for the Gators and then we also learn that Aaron’s father had passed in 2006 and his mom wasted no time to bring in another guy. This was the first signed that we saw that Aaron’s life was held together by his father. Now in Florida and enjoying being a superstar in college. Aaron starts to have a change in his behavior after he realize he could get away with anything because football down there was everything and as long as you win it doesn’t matter. Then the episode starts to shift to him being drafted and scouts made it clear this guy had social problems but his talent was worth it. Once in New England he became a star again and once again the trouble followed because now it was revealed he was involved in the murder of his friend Odin Lloyd, who he meant through his girlfriend.

In The final episode it mostly breaks down the murder case and Aaron’s life behind bars and the trials he was at and we see first hand the affects of his actions and honestly the affects that football has on our culture. The show clips of fans Aaron’s protesting that he is innocent and they disregard that there is another family that is hurting because of him. In the end they reveal that Aaron had CTE from all the hits that he took from high school through the pros.

This was a very strong emotional documentary because it showed us how football really is above everything even above Life and Death. In the end Aaron is gone and the people around was affect by his actions and Football needs to make changes and preach to people that this game can change one’s life for the better and for the worse and in the end it is clear they are the true Villain where Aaron was a henchmen and Odin was a victim.

The Colts ran out of Luck

By Paul Anthony

Can you imagine being 29 years old and saying you know what I should retire? Heck here I am at that age working two jobs. Here we are just under a week when the Colts star Quarterback decided it was time to hang up his helmet up for good and walk away from playing football in the NFL. He played only 6 seasons and walking away from I don’t know hundreds of millions of dollars. Now don’t get it twisted he still made a lot of money, even hit the area of 126 plus million dollars in his brief career, clearly its enough money to sit back and take an early retirement.

Andrew Luck was a super star before he was even a pro and many teams wanted him and it was clear that he was going to be drafted number 1. Many of the fans of the NFL teams wanted their teams to lose as many games to get that number 1 slot to get Luck, it was dubbed Suck for Luck. The Colts became the winners after they finished a 2-14 record and the rest was history. Early in his career he showed why he went number 1 and he racked up the stat and help the Colts back into the playoffs. Not only did he do that but he did that for the first 3 years of his career and then again in 2018. Basically out of the 6 years he played, he took the Colts to the playoffs 4 out 6 seasons.

Here we are he has the wins, the Pro bowls which he is a 4x Pro Bowler, Comeback player of the year for 2018. Led the League in touchdowns in 2014. Yet no Super Bowl for all of this. No doubt he would have become a champion sooner or later, so why retire? Well that is easy enough to answer.

Truth is Andrew Luck because of his style and his offensive line suffered a lot of injuries, including a shoulder injury that had kept him out for the entire 2017 season but that wasn’t the only injury, he had many more a sprained shoulder, lacerated kidney, partially torn abdominal muscle, torn cartilage in his ribs, a concussion. All in his first six playing years. It made sense for him to retire from the game, he has the money and the stats, maybe not the championships but he gets to walk away from the game before it is too late because in the end he is a human who will be a father soon enough.

When the news leaked the fans at the game started to boo which I assumed was at him and if it was then they are truly sick. The Man owned the fans nothing since this just a game in which he shined for them. Still I wonder if they were booing at the idea of him retiring rather then at him, It’s still very hard to tell at this point. In the aftermath fans pretty much were begging for a refund for their season tickets, which to me if you pay to see one player with their being no guarantees that they will play regardless then that is your own fault. Luck now can  walk off into the sunset with his family, something that we all deserve to do in the end of careers. Good luck to you Andrew Luck.

Brown Drama again

By Paul Anthony

Okay okay you want to talk about being a broken record, looks like we are going to talk about Antonio Brown yet again. It is sad we have cover this jerk again because I’ll be honest when the Steelers traded Brown away I thought that would help everyone and we could all move on but moving on is just too hard for some people and Brown happens to be one of them. Usually when people get traded, they realize it would be a fresh start and will correct the past by doing right, something they couldn’t do with their previous team but once again we are talking about Brown here who is now the biggest Diva in all of football.

Let’s start when him showing up to camp in a hot air balloon, which was pretty cool I have to give him that, it was different. Here in Pittsburgh it is a tradition to arrive in training camp in besides something like a boring car, so this was alright in my eyes, but the next few things is just a total joke to me. Let’s start with the first thing and that was Brown sitting out of camp with a foot injury. Now a football player’s feet are no doubt important but then we learn he gotten a bad frost bite because of how stupid he is and yes it was his own mistake. Don’t get me wrong when he posted pictures, I have to admit it was pretty nasty. Okay moving on to the season right? No Brown can’t fade from the drama just yet. The NFL gotten new helmets for their players and Brown doesn’t like his and felt that he can’t play football in the new helmets.

So in Brown fashion he has to boo woo and make a scene regarding the situation. He went as far as saying he won’t play another game in the NFL and will retire from football. Mind You the Oakland Raiders just spent a lot of money on him to play for them. For a moment the NFL stood up to Brown and said he has to wear the helmet but then that quickly changed and said he could wear an old helmet but it has to be made after 2010. Once again I lost respect for the NFL for catering to Brown but then Jon Gruden had to speak up and lie about how the team is supporting Brown and making up some crap on how Brown is passionate about this. Now I get it Jon is just a puppet but he truly looks like a big baby with supporting Brown. In the end I believe we will have more blogs on Brown, the Raiders aren’t a good team and Brown only wants his stats to look good so this will be fun to see, well it will also being annoying though because sooner or later he needs to be stopped but I fear it won’t stop until this guy retires oh the joy!

The Pay Issues

By Paul Anthony

We are in the era of full women rights and rightful so, god made us all equals therefore we should get paid equal. If you are good at what you do you should be paid well regardless if you are an man or woman now it is something different if you just suck at what you do. But we know or some of us know that a company’s revenue is very important because that revenue helps pay for people’s income. Now this is very true for sports leagues. Revenue from fans showing up and buying clothes and jerseys helps keep a sports league in great shape for years to come. Now the part that is fun for Athletes in these leagues is the money they can get with little to no education, sounds like i am being harsh but I am not. Just think you are in debt from college making maybe 50 to 70k starting out. Some of these people make 300K with no debts from college, so when I say I am not trying mean I am really not. that high number Just mention is for men not women sadly, their case is much different, but as they fight for equal pay the truth is they may never get it but who is to blame for that? Well if you are sports fan then look no further then at yourself.

Leagues live on their revenue that is no secret and it comes from the fans, just look at the NFL which makes billions upon billions which they can give their plays millions per year and not think twice about it. I know you heard the saying called the big four leagues which are the biggest leagues in North America in terms of revenue, they are NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL. Then you have two more leagues behind them which are MLS and the CFL. All are of course Men leagues. So how do these leagues make then? NFL makes about 13 billion, MLB makes about 9.5 billion, NBA makes about 5.2 billion, MLS makes .9 billion and CFL makes about .2 billion. Some high numbers right.

Now you may be wondering where do the women leagues stack up against these numbers? truth is they don’t at all. Let’s look at the biggest Woman’s league and that is the WNBA, but they wouldn’t have stuck around had it not been for the NBA giving them money, about 11 million dollars per year for most of its time here just so they can remain a float, now just for a few years only half of the league’s teams reported a profit and that comes with not enough people watching them shine.

This topic become a hot topic thanks to the US Women National team winning the World Cup for the second time and four of the 8 world cups and while the men failed to qualify for the world cup. Now people only seemed to be interested in these world games for National pride rather then being a hardcore fan of the sports because those hardcore fans are far in between Just ask yourself which game would you attend a NBA game or WNBA game and then you’ll understand why they don’t get paid that much.

I would like to say one day this could change but it won’t change until the right action is taken and what is the right action? Well one solution is the men Leagues buy the Women’s leagues and fund them that which could clearly boost the pay for the women but that could also mean less profits for the big four leagues are they willing to accept 12 billion instead of 13 billion, I would say no because they would have already done this. I wish the women Athletes the best of luck and keep fighting for higher pay!

O.J. Tweets!

By Paul Anthony

Some people just can’t behave and they show that age doesn’t always mean you become wise. There is a saying and that saying is once a cheater always a cheater. Now there are different forms of that saying but today we all going to use the form of Once a Criminal always a Criminal. The person that I am speaking of course is O.J Simpson who finally on Twitter and some of the stuff will blow your mind. Now to the young fans who may not know why this old guy is famous I will break it down for you.

O.J Simpson was a great running back in the 70’s where he played for 11 seasons  and though it was only 11 years, he proved to be the best back in his time. However by the the time the 90’s came around he became even more famous when he murdered his wife who was cheating on him, He also killed her boyfriend as well. He took police on a low speed chase that was televised in his white Bronco. The trial came and he had gotten a dream team of lawyers, who actually made sure he got off and became a free man. After that the rest of the decade proved that Simpson’s second chance of life was nothing more then a joke to him because he would fight drug charges and not paying his taxes.

Now his tax issues must have been why he decided to rob a person in Las Vegas that had his sports memorabilia at gun point. That’s right he decided to commit Armed Robbery. Once again he was back in jail this time he actually served prison time just nine years for everything he has done. I guess some time is better then no time. Now he is in his 70’s and like I said before he decided to join twitter and let me just say OH BOY.

In O.J. first tweet he decides to make a video and in this video it starts off pretty basic and him just saying this is his real account but then he adds “Now I got some getting even to do”. Now I know things can be taken out of context but he knows what he was doing and so do we. However he began to tweet other stuff like I just stabbed my wife I didn’t kill her and then posted a photo of black gloves and said I hope they fit.

Now Once again he could be just saying that because he wants the attention and he knows he became even more famous for what he had done. We all know social media can make stars out of people and for O.J. who is broke I would think, I am sure he needs money. Now Those are just some his tweets that I mention go check out the rest because he is very entertaining and it should make twitter fun at the very least!

The Rise of JuJu

By Paul Anthony

They say the NFL never takes a break and seems like that is the actually case. You got practices through the year and the Draft and the preseason to free agency it  does seem like it is a never ending story. However during the year there are other stories that come about, which seem to be more for the worse then the good at least that is how the main stream portrays it but there are some good stories that the media doesn’t cover. Here is a shocker this one comes from the Pittsburgh Steelers, which full the most part seem to be a full of drama.

Pittsburgh had a good go around with the drama with Bell and Brown two players that the city was glad to see leave and that left a young receiver as the new number 1 guy and fans have been loving him since he got drafted. JUJU Smith-Schuster first came into our hearts when his Bike, that is a Mountain Bike when it was stolen and he had no way of getting to practice and the Steeler Nation came together to find his bike such a touching story but it would only get better.

His skills on the field made him become a even bigger name but the NFL has no clue how fun this young kid is and how much Pittsburgh loves him. JUJU last year become the team M.V.P last season which made Antonio Brown very mad and made him want to get of town. Though he hasn’t actually said that but the evidence is on the wall and he even began to turn on JUJU, they seemed like they could have been best of friends, but that was not the case.  We Know Brown is will the Raiders and Bell is with the jets but JUJU is here to stay.

With Becoming the Team M.V.P would change him? Nope that is not the case with him, instead he continues to shine. We are in prom season and sometimes high school couples break up it’s life but it never stopped one fan who broke up with his girlfriend to ask JUJU to go to his prom with him and heck they even had matching velvet suits to match each other and he didn’t mind taking photos and everything  but it doesn’t stop there.

In Pittsburgh there is an Amusement park the famous Kennywood, they recently decided to go cheap and go away from the local and famous Heinz Ketchup to Hunt’s Ketchup, only people that worked there knew about this but someone decided to leak the news to the public and the outcry began but no worries JUJU came to KennyWood and handed out packet of Heinz’s ketchup, pretty cool right? I like to think so. No doubt He is loving life and it made me have my interest back into Football and looking forward football season and to see how he does it as the main guy here in the burgh!

Playoffs? Who Cares!

By Paul Anthony

Have you been following the NFL playoffs so far? I have to be honest i have not been. See for me I am a die-hard Pittsburgh fan, so My focus is now on the Pittsburgh Penguins but even so all I am hearing about is Antonio Brown and even for a Pittsburgher I am sick of hearing about it. These playoffs should be about the teams and player who are in the playoffs because it is pretty interesting. In the AFC championship you have Tom Brady and the Patriots vs the Kansas City Chiefs and their young star quarterback  Patrick Mahomes, in what could be a passing of the torch game. Then in the NFC Game you have the Staints vs The L.A. Rams which evryone wants that team to do get to the SuperBowl, seems like the talk was people wanted an all L.A. Superbowl well we know that not happeniong this year but yet the main focus is on a guy who isn’t even playing.

Let’s get back to this drama with Brown. It all started with the Staints which the Steelers lost and pretty kicked the Steelers out of the playoffs. However Brown during that game seemed to be unstoppable which is nothing new. Then Tuesday came around and the team held a meeting to vote on the Team M.V.P and Brown didn’t win. The next day Brown leaves practice after a dispute with Big Ben, However Tomlin lied to the media and said Brown hurt his Knee but we later found out the reason why he didn’t play was because basically he was big baby who decided to mispractice and show up to the game and coach said you’re not playing and once again he walked away from the team. He started using Social Media mocking Tomlin and leaving the coach no choice but to come clean about Brown.

We now know Brown feels like the team doesn’t appreciate his talents, so this could comeback to the team M.V.P award. One thing Brown is about is his stats, he doesn’t care about winning or losing just money and stats and that my friend doesn’t make you an M.VP. Steelers team owner and president Art Roony II did a sit down interview and basically said He doesn’t see Brown returning to the team. Which means they are looking to trade him.

I once said the Steelers wouldn’t win much with Brown and sure enough that became true. The team can be better off without because the team is full of leaders so they are good shape. Yes Brown is the best Wide reciever in the game today but remember there is no I in team. That sounds cheesy but it is very much true.

NFL Drama Review

By Paul Anthony

I know we are all sick and tired of hearing about the NFL drama but just when you thought the story was over, you learn it only keeps going and going. Let’s look back at how this drama started and find out when this saga could end, if there is an end in sight, so let’s start from the beginning.

We go back to August of 2016 during the preseason star quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers Colin Kaepernick was scene not standing during the national Anthem, now after the game he was asked about and he stated why, he did this as a protest the violence that was happening to African- Americans and the police. However, many people saw it was disrespecting the flag and the Military, after speaking with a friend who was a veteran, Colin was spotted taking a knee, instead of sitting and when he was asked why he stated that he wanted it to make it clear he wasn’t trying to disrespect the military. People at this point were still beyond frustrated with him, after the 2016 season Colin became a free agent which he is still currently a free agent. Some people believe he wasn’t signed because of this whole drama while others just disagree with that.

2017 season saw more players from different teams taking knees, the Cleveland browns was the first team to have all players take a knee. President Trump started to take notice and made comments, that shall we say wasn’t needed and only lit the fire even more. After His comments, the next weeks teams once again took knees and in the Pittsburgh Steelers case where they no showed for the anthem, well all but one came out.

At this point Jerry Jones who is the owner of the Dallas Cowboys said if they don’t stand then they don’t play referring to his team, the commissioner Roger Goodell held a meeting with everyone in the NFL, they discussed a range of issues but didn’t discuss the main issue of the taking the knee during the anthem….

Yes, the main topic wasn’t discussed which makes me think how pointless the meeting was and how clueless he truly is. The sad thing is we all use sports to escape the world we live and now it is showing up in our sports, we may agree or disagree with what they are doing but there needs to be something down, but what is the solution? Players can use other platforms to voice their options and do what they feel is right and just play the game, we all love the game and want to enjoy it and not think about the drama that we all must deal with.

I hope they realize this soon but I think at the same time Rodger Goodell will milk this and let the situation get worse before it gets better the fact is he should have called meetings and what not last year and act fast which he did not which only proves he has no clue what he is doing so with him and Trump and the players I don’t expect this mess to go away anytime soon.
