I want to make one thing clear and that is that I didn’t pick this movie as a random movie to review and talk about no. I picked this movie to review because of the unsettling times we are in. We have this whole virus thing going around but even more importantly we have people getting killed and turning us away from each other. One of things that actually brings us together is sports. We know sports aren’t going on right now when we need them the most but I decided look for a good film that through these troubling times could help us to see that we are one and united we should stand. In our country’s history we have seen this happen from time to time. the film I have decided to review is one of my favorites and that Film is called Remember The Titans. The film was released back in 2000 and starred Denzel Washington and Will Patton as football coaches. The movie is regarded as one of the best football films of all time. The film had a budget of just 30 million and a legacy that still stands after nearly twenty years after it was released.
The Movie starts ins 1981 and we see everyone attending a funeral but we don’t know whose, at that point we go back to 1971 where the town of Alexandria Virginia where a new school is formed from ending segregation. But there is hatred of course from both sides, no one is getting along there we meet Coach Yoast who is head coach of the team but also a future state hall of famer. Herman Boone arrives to be a coach under Yoast but the board voted him the head coach to make things look good which Boone felt unfair to Yoast until he sees how much this means to the black community, at that point Boone wants Yoast to join the team under him but Yoast pride as being an head coach prevents him until the players inform him if he doesn’t coach then they will quit the team which Yoast doesn’t want them to lose scholarships because of this matter. During a team meeting Boone introduces himself to the black players which they quickly learn he’s all about winning and nothing else. The meeting is interrupted by Yoast and the white players and tell Boone he wasn’t to join but full control of the Defense. The Day comes for the players to get on the buses to training camp Boone sees that blacks went on one bus and the whites went on another bus. It annoys Boone tot the point he orders one bus be for offense and one for defense and you must sit by someone of the opposite race. The players do and Boone orders them that they must get to know each other for training camp becomes easier. He then takes them on a long jog to the battle field of Gettysburg and explains the history when black and whites stood together and died for each other and it brings the team together. After camp though their newly formed bonds are testing but survives. However Boone is informed if he loses one game he is fired and Yoast will be the coach again but the team goes 13-0 and wins the state championship. It is revealed that the funeral is that of the former team captain who help bond the team was killed by a drunk driver and the movie ends with them saying their goodbyes to his coffin.
I couldn’t agree more with calling this film one of the better football films and even to this day brought tears to me to see how powerful people can be when we are together as 1. Everything was on point and it was hard to name something I didn’t like. In the end I am calling this a must watched film and giving it a grade of an A!

When you work for Vince McMahon one thing is certain and that is your job might not be safe even when times are good which we know they aren’t currently but who could have seen this coming! this week we learn that the XFL is done after just five games into their season, this happen because of the virus that is going around. Everyone knew that part was coming because before that every league was shutting down, so it was only natural and legal that they had to shut down but then just short time after they shut down, the league filed for bankruptcy now we know the league is no more. Once again the league is gone for the second time.
The league was actually doing good for a start up league, they had the money to pay everyone a decent wage, sure it wasn’t NFL money but it was still more than most us make in a years time. The league was ran as whole instead of having single team owners and the average attendance was around 10 to 15,000, which once again wasn’t bad and even in two cities, the attendance was even higher. In St Louis they were pushing over 30,000 fans to the point, they were going to open the upper levels of the stadium, which was a smart move and good signed that the league could grow because even Seattle was going to do the same.
The league wasn’t like the NFL or the AAF that was around a year before. They played football but made it safer and added a way to get more points and make the game that much more interesting. For an example in the NFL if a team is down by 9 points and the game was down to the final seconds, you knew the team that was down was pretty much going to lose because the most they could get was 8 points. In the XFL you can tie a 9 point game. I have watched a few of these games and honestly I thought it could stick around and even grow but in the end its Vince’s fault. Rumors are coming out that the league would have been fine if he was fully committed to the product.
Vince is a business man who wants to see the returns to be good soon as they start the company and I am guessing they weren’t growing fast enough, so in the end he pulled the plug and left hundreds out work with a very little warning. It was truly a sad day for the people who loved and love to play football.
Now Just recently I started to read that the NFL could buy the XFL and make it into a minor league system much like what the other leagues have. This wouldn’t be a bad move on the NFL’s part because they will continue their dominance and prove that there can only be one football league in America but in the end it was and always will be poor ownership and we will see how bad Vince again in part 2!

Sport leagues that we know like NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA. Have been around for a very long time and have earn the right to be at the top and then those leagues have minor leagues to groom their young talent. Let’s look at the NFL with 32 teams and each team has 53 men that makes a total of nearly 1700 players not counting practice squad. Now we know there are clearly more people who want to play pro football when they leave college either through being drafted or graduation. Look at how big the NCAA football system really is. It’s not fair to say those who don’t make it isn’t that good enough to make it, the sad point is there isn’t enough room for everyone to make it. There has only been one other true football league and that is the AFL or Arena Football league. Last year we had the AAF which folded midway through the season and left many players without a job. At This point we knew the XFL would be starting the following year, Which gave everyone hope or at least I thought so. XFL was around once before back in 2001 but folded just after one season. 19 years later they came back but will they last more than one season and will they grow?
I wanted to wait review the season after week 2 because the second week of these new football leagues are very important because now the hype is over, things are settled down and the season is in full swing. There is no doubt AAF folded because it ran out of money and we see the AFL teams fold as well because the league has shrunk but not folded. XFL is different though and that is because they have a little more money to work with and they have been drawing decent crowds which is averaging around 15000 per game and the ratings are around 1 million per game. these numbers sound low but things take time. With more money to spend and not spending like crazy which the average player makes 1000 dollars at the lowest each week and up to 2700 for winners with a salary cap of 4 million for each team it’s something the league can afford and I do hope they give us a second season.
Ratings are important and even at 1 million per average it’s still doing better than some tv shows that networks could use to replace it. Now If the ratings dip below a certain number then it could spell doom for the league. America loves football, we see that football in any market thrives. Just look now Las Vegas has a football team and a hockey team. XFL needs to use a good 5 year plan then see what happens, which I hope they can afford it and maybe even consider playing within the NFL season when people are craving Football more at. At this point XFL is doing good for being a baby league but they will need to grow but for now let’s enjoy more Football!

Okay okay you want to talk about being a broken record, looks like we are going to talk about Antonio Brown yet again. It is sad we have cover this jerk again because I’ll be honest when the Steelers traded Brown away I thought that would help everyone and we could all move on but moving on is just too hard for some people and Brown happens to be one of them. Usually when people get traded, they realize it would be a fresh start and will correct the past by doing right, something they couldn’t do with their previous team but once again we are talking about Brown here who is now the biggest Diva in all of football.
Let’s start when him showing up to camp in a hot air balloon, which was pretty cool I have to give him that, it was different. Here in Pittsburgh it is a tradition to arrive in training camp in besides something like a boring car, so this was alright in my eyes, but the next few things is just a total joke to me. Let’s start with the first thing and that was Brown sitting out of camp with a foot injury. Now a football player’s feet are no doubt important but then we learn he gotten a bad frost bite because of how stupid he is and yes it was his own mistake. Don’t get me wrong when he posted pictures, I have to admit it was pretty nasty. Okay moving on to the season right? No Brown can’t fade from the drama just yet. The NFL gotten new helmets for their players and Brown doesn’t like his and felt that he can’t play football in the new helmets.
So in Brown fashion he has to boo woo and make a scene regarding the situation. He went as far as saying he won’t play another game in the NFL and will retire from football. Mind You the Oakland Raiders just spent a lot of money on him to play for them. For a moment the NFL stood up to Brown and said he has to wear the helmet but then that quickly changed and said he could wear an old helmet but it has to be made after 2010. Once again I lost respect for the NFL for catering to Brown but then Jon Gruden had to speak up and lie about how the team is supporting Brown and making up some crap on how Brown is passionate about this. Now I get it Jon is just a puppet but he truly looks like a big baby with supporting Brown. In the end I believe we will have more blogs on Brown, the Raiders aren’t a good team and Brown only wants his stats to look good so this will be fun to see, well it will also being annoying though because sooner or later he needs to be stopped but I fear it won’t stop until this guy retires oh the joy!

I know we are all sick and tired of hearing about the NFL drama but just when you thought the story was over, you learn it only keeps going and going. Let’s look back at how this drama started and find out when this saga could end, if there is an end in sight, so let’s start from the beginning.
We go back to August of 2016 during the preseason star quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers Colin Kaepernick was scene not standing during the national Anthem, now after the game he was asked about and he stated why, he did this as a protest the violence that was happening to African- Americans and the police. However, many people saw it was disrespecting the flag and the Military, after speaking with a friend who was a veteran, Colin was spotted taking a knee, instead of sitting and when he was asked why he stated that he wanted it to make it clear he wasn’t trying to disrespect the military. People at this point were still beyond frustrated with him, after the 2016 season Colin became a free agent which he is still currently a free agent. Some people believe he wasn’t signed because of this whole drama while others just disagree with that.
2017 season saw more players from different teams taking knees, the Cleveland browns was the first team to have all players take a knee. President Trump started to take notice and made comments, that shall we say wasn’t needed and only lit the fire even more. After His comments, the next weeks teams once again took knees and in the Pittsburgh Steelers case where they no showed for the anthem, well all but one came out.
At this point Jerry Jones who is the owner of the Dallas Cowboys said if they don’t stand then they don’t play referring to his team, the commissioner Roger Goodell held a meeting with everyone in the NFL, they discussed a range of issues but didn’t discuss the main issue of the taking the knee during the anthem….
Yes, the main topic wasn’t discussed which makes me think how pointless the meeting was and how clueless he truly is. The sad thing is we all use sports to escape the world we live and now it is showing up in our sports, we may agree or disagree with what they are doing but there needs to be something down, but what is the solution? Players can use other platforms to voice their options and do what they feel is right and just play the game, we all love the game and want to enjoy it and not think about the drama that we all must deal with.
I hope they realize this soon but I think at the same time Rodger Goodell will milk this and let the situation get worse before it gets better the fact is he should have called meetings and what not last year and act fast which he did not which only proves he has no clue what he is doing so with him and Trump and the players I don’t expect this mess to go away anytime soon.
