Godzilla: King of the Monsters Review
By Paul Anthony
This may come as a shocker but I am giving this film a good review, some critics might be bashing it but for the third Godzilla film to be made in the United States but I feel like they got it right this time and they needed to with going into what might be the finale movie of Godzilla in next year’s Kong vs Godzilla movie. We know last time in 2014 the biggest knock of Godzilla was not enough of him, which I actually did like, it was a cheaper way of not having him in the film so much to have the profits look a lot, it was a good move on their part but now it is different.
Let’s start with what I thought was the weakest part of the film and that was the story. Now I know they can’t really do much more here but regardless it was weak. We basically have the broken family that became broken from the events of the last film which one parent being a bad parent but in the thin twist is the good guy and the good parent is really working for the bad guys. They come back together only to broken up again with a death of the real bad guy, sounds confusing but in the film it’s not. They do a good job at introducing a new bad guy though rumor is he won’t be in Kong vs Godzilla which is a smart move but the future is not set with what will happen next.
This film gave us a chance to see where Godzilla lives and rest in between the decades that he is not seen and shows that he was truly worshiped as a god and protector of the humans through out his history which was a good touch. We saw that battles and I thought the effects for this was good and the music for the scenes was another good touch. people may bash the film for having too much monsters on the screen but you saw the story and the writing to make it clear this was going to be a monster movie, I will not bash them for it.
One of my favorite parts was the credits because they told the story after the film with the effects of Godzilla winning and the titans following him and a glimpse what is to come next and how Kong and Godzilla were always destine to fight with the final article headline reading what is a king to a god? To me that was a highlight in those credits.
When it is all said and done I will give this movie 3.5 stars and praise it for being good follow up to both Godzilla and Kong. Numbers are tracking it to be number one this weekend which will be a good start for it because there are plenty of more movies on it’s way!
